Curriculum

At Bollinbrook Pre-school we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum that covers seven areas of learning for children from birth to the age of five.

The three prime areas of learning are:

• Personal, Social and Emotional development
• Communication & Language
• Physical Development

We place much emphasis on the development of all our children in these areas, as they provide the building blocks of learning for the other four areas, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Children learn to play and talk together.

Communication and Language

Children learn to listen and understand and to use language to communicate with increasing confidence.

Physical Development

Children learn to build using lots of different construction activities and use pencils and other mark making implements with increasing skill.

They take part in PE, dance sessions and climb using our outdoor equipment and large hollow blocks. The children learn how to catch a ball and practise kicking balls into our nets and throwing them into our basket ball hoops.

Literacy

Children have lots of opportunity to make marks, write and develop a great love of books and stories.

Mathematics

Children learn how to count out loud and touch count and to recognise numbers and shapes.

Understanding of the World

Children enjoy using our bird watching area and watching caterpillars turn into butterflies. They also have lots of opportunity to play with small world sets of different kinds.

Expressive Art and Design

Children explore paint, chalks, pencils, felt tips and glue. They have a lovely home corner to explore and take part in role play based on their own first hand experiences.
