Personal Social and Emotional Development Circle/ Small group – Listening games. Express preferences and decisions Show ’effortful control’-waiting for their turn. Trying honey Express preferences and try new things	Communication and Language Focus language: Snail, spider, worm, ladybird, beetle, ant, caterpillar, butterfly, earwig, woodlouse, cocoon, hive Use a wider range of vocabulary. Learn new vocabulary Answer questions about stories Listen to simple stories and understand what is happening with the help of the pictures. Understand simple questions about ‘who’, ‘what’ ‘where’ and ‘why?’	Physical Development Fizzy Totz Moving like Minibeasts Can you move like a caterpillar/spider/butterfly/bee? *Gain control of their whole body through practise of large movements* Fine motor control- Use pencils and felt tips to colour in mini-beasts and trace around stencils of different insects. Put 8 pegs on to a spider template. Use one-handed tools and equipment. Show a preference for a dominant hand Use a comfortable grip with good control when holding pencils/pens	Literacy Focus stories: Superworm, What the Ladybird Heard, The Snail and the Whale, The Very Hungry Caterpillar Sharing our favourite stories Enjoy sharing books with an adult Repeat words and phrases from familiar stories Ask questions about the book. Make comments and share their own ideas
	Minibeasts Weeks beginning 9/5/23, 15-5-23 & 22-5-23
Outdoor Focus: Building with large sticks Using different materials to weave with Adding big pieces of material to make dens. Mini beast hunts in Pre-school and at home Use all their senses in hands on exploration of natural materials			Mathematics Spiral painting using string Notice and talk about patterns around them Counting spots on a paper plate ladybird Say one number for each item in order Link numerals and amounts Measuring worms Who has the longest worm? Who has the shortest? Can you use a ruler to measure them? Make comparisons between objects relating to length Counting the mini beasts we have collected in the garden How many snails have we found? What type of mini beast did we find the most of?
	Expressive Arts and Design Songs & Rhymes– Mini-beast song, Incy Wincy Spider, Little Miss Muffet, How Does a Caterpillar Go? Songs- Enjoy and take part in action songs Remember and sing entire songs Paper Plate Ladybirds Join different materials. Snail shell spirals- string painting Notice patterns and explore paint using different tools Painting symmetrical butterflies Notice patterns, explore colour and paint	Understanding the World Naming different mini beasts Finding mini beasts in the garden and looking at them closely through magnifying glasses Explore and respond to different natural phenomena. Sorting set- Can you sort the insects into those that fly and those that crawl? Explore collections of materials with similar and/or different properties Where does honey come from? How do bees make honey? Where do they live?
