Newsletter June 2019
Welcome back to Pre-school. I hope you all had a lovely half term break.
I would like to welcome Felicity and her family to Pre-school this term.
Focus: We will be continuing our zoo theme this term as we prepare our older children for their visit to Peak Wildlife Park on the 28th June. We will be specifically learning about penguins, lemurs, wallabies and zebras as these are just some of the animals the children will be able to get very close to at the zoo as we can walk through their enclosures. Alongside this we will also be creating a lovely under the sea display as we learn more about under sea creatures this half term. In our outdoor play area we will be turning the wooden house into a beach shop selling windmills, buckets and spades, fishing nets, shells and boats and the children will also be able to play beach related games with beach balls, bats and balls, boules and skittles. We will also be expecting delivery of our live caterpillars this week and we will be closely observing them as they grow, turn into cocoons and emerge as butterflies.
Transition visits: If your child is going to Bollinbrook Primary School in September then you should have already received details of their visits to the reception class in the coming weeks. During the June visits, if your child is in Pre-school that day we can take and/or collect your child if they are in all day or come in for the afternoon session. For the visit on the 1st July where all the children are in class then parents are to take the children to school at 8.45 am but again, if your child is usually in Pre-school on that day we can collect at 11.30. If your child is in Pre-school on the Monday afternoon of the 8th July when school have organised a teddy bear’s picnic, then again we can take your child to that if needed.
Sports Day: We will be holding our Sports Day on the school playing fields at the back of Pre-school on Thursday 11th July at 9.20 am. All children are welcome so if your child does not normally attend on a Thursday then please bring them in at 8.55.am and then wait on the school field for the children to come out. The races should only take about 30 minutes to complete.
Fizzy Totz: In preparation for Sports Day we will be holding our Fizzy Totz sessions out on the school field this half term, weather permitting. If your child is in on a Wednesday morning for this session could you please ensure that they are wearing suitable footwear for running races outside!
Oxford Reading Tree books: The older children are going to be bringing home from our library an early reading book to share with you each week. These books support our work on phonics and letter recognition so please look at the stories together, asking your child about what is happening on each page and look at the simple games at the end of each book.
Leavers Party and Presentation Assembly: All children leaving to go to primary school this year are invited to our leaver’s morning on Friday 19th July. We will be having party games from 9am until 11am and then parents are invited in for 11.15 to watch the children present a simple assembly. After this we will be having a picnic which parents are also invited to attend and this will finish at 1pm.
AGM: We will be holding our AGM on Tuesday 18th June at 7.30 in Pre-school. Please come along to this if you can and find more about how Pre-school is run and how you can support it. Without the parent led committee that oversees the Pre-school we could not operate and we do need two or three new members this year who have children in pre-school currently or, if your child is leaving in July, you have younger children due to come to us.
Website: Just a reminder that our newsletters and weekly planning are put on our website https://bollinbrookpreschool.org/
