Newsletter April 2019
Welcome back to Pre-school. I hope you all had a lovely Easter break.
I would like to welcome Joseph, Lara and Amelia-Rose to Pre-school this term.
Focus: this term we will explore the topic of ‘the zoo,’ learning about lots of different animals, reptiles, fish and insects that you might find in a zoo and also where they live in the wild. We will look at animal patterns and make some of them ourselves. We will also be learning about simple maps as we cover this topic so if any of you happen to visit a zoo over the coming weeks a copy of the site maps would be very much appreciated! During the next few weeks we will also be concentrating on developing all the children’s fine motor skills, collecting lots of tiny things for collages, ripping paper, threading beads, using tweezers to collect objects both inside and out, snipping and cutting with scissors, using the tap a shape set and exploring the playdough. These experiences help develop the co-ordination needed to develop things like pencil control and managing fastenings on clothes. Some of the children will also be taking part in more focused phonics sessions at their own levels where we will be learning letter sounds and copying/writing letters from their names and other words. The children will also learn about rhyme. Our older children will be taking part in more planned visits to reception class so they can become more familiar with the school environment and staff. If your child is not going to Bollinbrook Primary School I will begin to liaise with their new school regarding their transition.
Self-Registration: We are introducing a new system, replacing the letterbox that the children put their names in on arrival. Each child will have a block with their name on and as they come into pre-school we would like them to try and find their named block and make a tower with them. We hope this might make the self-registration process a bit more interesting! If you could help your child find their own named block on entry and add it to the tower that would be great.
Parent Questionnaires: Thanks to those of you have taken the time to complete the questionnaires we sent out towards the end of last term. Your feedback is much appreciated and helps us in our plans for the future. It is not too late to send them back in so please do so if you can. All the feedback has been extremely positive and one especially made us smile- a little ones request for a hot tub in pre-school!
Parent’s Evening: We will be holding a parents evening on Thursday 16th May from 5.00-7.30 pm. This will provide an opportunity for you to have a chat about how your child is doing and to ask any questions you may have. We will be putting up lists of appointment times for each member of staff on the cloakroom doors shortly so please write your name by a 10 minute time slot time with either your child’s key person or myself. If you don’t normally come to pre-school to drop off or collect then please just email me with a convenient time and I will add you to the appropriate list.
Website: Just a reminder that our newsletters and weekly planning are put on our website https://bollinbrookpreschool.org/
